The Microsoft* Windows* ROM Version operating system provides a scaleable solution to take advantage of the Windows graphical environment on the desktop personal computers on embedded applications without the need for a hard disk. Existing development tools for Windows reduce the manufacturer¦s time to market. Execute fully in ROM with standard mode and partially in RAM with 386 enhanced mode. Requires a minimum of 1 MB in ROM and 1 MB in RAM for standard mode and 4 MB in ROM and 2 MB in RAM for 386 enhanced mode. Needs the MS-DOS* operating system. Any modules (including applications, dynamic-link libraries or DLLs, and fonts) that are not loaded into ROM can be loaded from a RAM disk for execution in RAM. Incorporate any Windows executable file into a ROM image. Starting time for Windows and applications installed in ROM is reduced to an absolute minimum, with disk accesses occurring only to read data files and dynamic configuration information. For core Windows code and application preloaded in ROM, no segment swapping is needed. Save power because disk access is not required as often to load discarded code segments. The development kit is available after licensing. |
